Anime Review: Blue Exorcist

Genre: Action, Supernatural
Episodes: 26
Overall thoughts: A great look at self perspective, determination and perseverance.

Rin, an orphan from birth, lives in a ministry with his twin bother Yukio. The head of the ministry has taken the twins in and, with the help of the other brothers of the church, raises them as his own. Life flows as usual, until unusual things start happening. That's when the true purpose of the ministry is revealed and everyone's life changes forever.

Being the underdog sucks. Rin knows this better than anyone. No matter how much he tries, he always ends up coming off as wild and unruly. That all changes when he begins to notice strange beings. Beings that no one else seem to see. A lifetime of lies and secrets force Rin out of his childhood home and into a whole new, unforeseeable future as a demon hunter and exorcist (in training).

Although he and Rin are twins, they couldn't be more different. While Rin is a lose cannon, Yukio is studious and cautious. His kind nature and good grades make him popular with his class mates and girls. But, is Yukio really as lovely as he seems? Or is it all a clever cover? You'll have to check it out to find out!

Blue Exorcist isn't your typical shounen. It's a slice of life comedy with dark and supernatural undertones. I like to think of it as Life of High School Boys meets Another (you know, if Another wasn't completely homicidal). The perfect anime for blocking out the world and relaxing after work.
